Rose wood/Bois de Rose (Aniba rosae odora)
This Brazilian evergreen tree can grow up to 40 meters high and has a reddish bark and yellow flowers and is extensively felled in the South American rainforest, but now legislation requires distilleries to plant a new tree for each tree cut down. It has a red colored bark and yellow blossoms.
Essential oil is obtained by hydrodistillation of the wood of the tree. It has a sweet-woody, floral-nutmeg aroma that finds extensive use in fantasy-type perfumes and colognes. It is also used to scent soaps, creams, lotions, bath oils and massage oils. Rosewood essential oil does not have a large array of uses like some of the other essential oils do, but it is a very pleasant oil, and what it accomplishes, it does very well. The therapeutic uses for essential oil of rosewood are to alleviate symptoms of melancholy and even clinical depression. Its scent can up lift your mood, raise your spirit, and has an overall balancing effect on the mind and body. It can help with nervousness and may help with an increase in mental function. Rosewood essential oil can act like a stimulant and is great in increasing immune system function preventing infections like colds, coughs and flu's. It kills bacteria and helps issues related to the head, such as sinus problems or headaches.
Rosewood essential oil is very good when used in skin care and is a good deodorizer. It rejuvenates the skin by stimulating regeneration of tissue, making it especially beneficial for aging skin.
